Painting our Home Black!

The day we went and viewed our hope-to-be forever home prior to making an offer.

In 2020 my husband and I purchased our hope-to-be forever home and from the start I had a huge list of ideas to make this house our home, on a FRIENDLY BUDGET!

A year later, I woke up one day and said to my husband, “I want to paint our home, to be different from the rest”. He wasn’t sure what i meant when I said, “different from the rest” and when I expressed painting our new to us house black. He almost had a heart attack! I mentioned okay, maybe gray… little did he know, I’d find the darkest “gray” possible, LOL. To this day, I still correct him explaining, “no husband its dark gray not black!” …. don’t worry it really is, black! After many weeks persuading and multiple samples of “gray” my husband and I decided to take a risk and paint our porch black. I was excited! My husband, on the other hand was nervous about how it would turn out, but we took the plunge and it was one of the best design decisions we've made for our home.

We all know what happens after starting a project. That same project grows into a much larger project, something that even I was even ready for! That same evening we painted our porch my husband had the brilliant idea of ripping up our nasty outdoor carpet we inherited when buying our home. After weeks, of sanding WE FINALLY were able being able to stain right before halloween! Since then our exterior was put on the back burner. That was until now!

Fast forward to this week, we've decided to take our idea to the next level. We are now painting the rest of our house's fascia, trim, and soffit black to match the porch. It's a bold move, but we are confident it will pay off in the end.

One of the reasons we decided to go with black for our fascia, trim, and soffit is because it creates a beautiful contrast against the brick of our colonial house. During the spring we have a lot of greenery around our home, and the black trim will help to make our foliage pop. It's a simple way to add visual interest and make our home stand out from the others in our neighborhood.

Another reason we love the idea of black trim is that it's timeless. We're not worried about it going out of style anytime soon. Plus, it's a classic color that works well with any design style, whether it's modern, farmhouse, or traditional.

In addition to the aesthetics, we're also excited about the practical benefits of painting our trim black. after a few years of having our porch black we noticed that doesn't show dirt or wear and tear as easily as our old white facade, which means less maintenance for us in the long run.

Overall, we're thrilled finally took the plunge and painted our home's fascia, trim, and soffit black. It's a design decision that we believe will pay off in the long run, both in terms of aesthetics and practicality.

If you're considering adding black to your home's exterior, we encourage you to go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Now the real debate is, do we leave our windows and casings white? What do you readers think? Paint them or leave them white? Leave your answers in the comments below!
